Tramontina Dutch Oven, A Look At The Range

February 14th, 2010

The Tramontina Dutch Oven is one of the premier dutch oven ranges available and they come from a great environmentally aware company.

Dutch Oven’s have their roots in post that were literally thrown in the fire and later developed to legged posts to sit above the coals…. Now days dutch ovens like the Tramontina Dutch Oven range have been redesigned for the modern stove top. They have lost the legs (You can still buy this old style) and come in a cool range of colors. They still often feature thick enameled cast iron walls and tight fitting lids that make them indispensable for slow cooking things like chillies, stews and curries. I love Dutch Oven’s they cook my favorite foods! They can cost more than your average aluminum pot but they will last you a lifetime and are great quality.

Ok Tramontina offer a range of these ovens so let’s take a look at a few of the best:

Tramontina Gourmet Cast Iron Covered, 3.5quarts

The Gourmet 2.5 quart Cast iron Dutch Oven comes in an awesomely vibrant red enamel finish. It’s perfect for slow cooking things like soups, stews and curries, great for baking in the oven and even a little frying if you wish. It is made from heavy-gauge cast iron and is ready to use… No seasoning required. The interior is enameled with a beige porcelain finish which helps with even heating for better slow cooking.

Tramontina Barazzoni Stainless Steel Covered Tri-Ply Clad Dutch Oven, Limited Editions, 6 Quart

This is a modern version of the dutch oven design using modern materials.

The Tramontina Barazzoni Dutch Oven is part if the Barazzoni stainless steel cookware range make by Italy’s Gruppo Industriale. The range is built with new technology and are made to look sheerly beautiful. The design was created by Claudio Bellini and it looks great in your kitchen.

This may not be traditional dutch oven material but it has a 3 layer main vessel that gives amazing cooking performance.

Cooking beans in a slow cooker

January 13th, 2012

Baked beans are an amazingly yummy dish that far too often are not home cooked. They taste great from a can but taste amazing home cooked and this is where your slow cooker or dutch oven, like a Tramontina dutch oven, comes in very handy.

I am vegetarian so I make mine without the bacon but that isn’t a big problem. This YouTube video from Cooking Dave shows a great recipe.

I like the simplicity of this recipe and Dave seems like a straight up good guy. Basically baked beans are beans baked in sugar and tomatoe sauce but the extra steps that Dave takes really help in the final taste outcome.

Do you have a baked bean recipe to share? Do yo have any other dutch oven recipes to share?

Thanks.
